In theosophy and anthroposophy, the Akashic records is a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms, not just human. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the mental plane. It is believed all thoughts, words, intent etc. generates its own unique "frequency or vibration" which is stored in the Akashic Records.
Many people believe that mediums and psychics (and indeed us all) have the ability to tap into the Akashic Records and that cognitive awareness (simply knowing something without understanding why) is a demonstration of this ability.
There are connections to the term and the ideology embedded in early Buddhism and also in myths regarding Atlantis and early civilisations. In addition, this may also be the root as to how animal spirit guides can possess human like knowledge and personas.
